A combination of the active compression test (O'Brien test) and the passive distraction test appears to be the best test cluster to diagnose a SLAP lesion

As always guys,

For those who didn't follow any of Physiotutors courses. I would highly recommend it.
I use it to learn new knowledge, but also to refresh/update my old knowledge.

High quality information.

And also the podcasts!

I have had all these tests negative, even magnetic resonation. The pain and the situation was so crazy, docs in the hospoital told me that i am hypochondriac. Then i went to private sport clinic and the exploration surgury was succesfull. I had slap lesion repaired and i am ready to live again, after many months. Dont give up. Greatings from the Czech republic.

what could it mean if the first test is NOT painful in the first position, but VERY painful in the second position (with palm facing up)

hello, my physiotherapist treated me for bursitis for months. Without results, he told me it was a SLAP lesion. But your test doesn't hurt in internal rotation. Only in external rotation. Does this mean it's not a SLAP lesion? ( The pain occurred while doing my very first muscle up ) Thank you

Hi again, Andreas and Kai!
I am a little surprised that you have referred to a 2009 article for this clip, when you could have referenced a more recent study viz: Hegedus et al (2012, ) which you included with your relocation test video. Interestingly enough, you also state in that clip that it is used in assessing shoulder instability, whereas Hegedus et al (2012) found that it is the most sensitive test (52%) for SLAP lesions. They also state that in a low bias study, the passive distraction test was found to be highly specific (>80%, LR+ >/= 5.0) for SLAP lesions.
PS just thought I'd let you know that my gay friend thought that you are both very attractive :)
