It really helps if you make flash cards of the different fallacies for when you are answering the chapter questions as they include previously introduced material.

It’s a lot of information yes, but once you understand each fallacy and why it is what it is it’s pretty hard to forget and suddenly you see the world in a little bit of a different way.

Hi! We did the Art of Argument from Classical Education Books. It had a DVD (sometimes good, sometimes boring but it was a nice change from just reading) which was really necessary and we did it together over nine months with my Gr. 9 student. We really enjoyed it and would then look at news clips, youtube videos etc to spot the fallacies. She's now spotting fallacies in her friends' conversations and in picking apart things she hears in the news, reads in papers etc. It was probably one of the most useful Gr. 9 courses we did. It is a lot of material and she wants to review the glossary of terms every year to keep it fresh. So I think that was pretty high praise in how useful she found it.

I started it last spring with my thirteen year old and we are continuing it, currently on lesson 15. We read aloud and discuss, I use the questions kind of as a guideline and they have brought out some great conversations. My 11 year old listens in as well though I don't make her. They have fun pointing out red herrings and calling each other out for being a "straw man". (then had to explain to grandma what they were talking about lol). I get what you mean about the questions so that's why we just use a few as examples and then move on. I had also bought An Illustrated Book of Bad Arguments to do with my 11 year old and will likely read aloud with both after this one. I think they are awesome skills to be taught now to the kids.

We used it.. We did a lesson or two a week. We still found it hard to memorize all of the things. We mostly discussed it towards the end or we would look up the answer on a few and see if we could make sense of it that way. It wasn't our favorite either!

I under stand what you are saying but the only part I disagree with is that in classical conversations they only have you do 1 or 2 a week and you look over them in your class also in CC they have you do this in your seventh grade year to prepare you for logic

You should totally write a book with your son and address some of the issues that you felt were awkward the book ✌🏽😅
