CLIP DESCRIPTION:
When Jem (Philip Alford) and Scout (Mary Badham) get attacked in the woods on Halloween night, Boo (Robert Duvall) fights and saves them.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning autobiographical novel was translated to film in 1962 by Horton Foote and the producer/director team of Robert Mulligan and Alan J. Pakula. Set a small Alabama town in the 1930s, the story focuses on scrupulously honest, highly respected lawyer Atticus Finch, magnificently embodied by Gregory Peck. Finch puts his career on the line when he agrees to represent Tom Robinson (Brock Peters), a black man accused of rape. The trial and the events surrounding it are seen through the eyes of Finch's six-year-old daughter Scout (Mary Badham). While Robinson's trial gives the film its momentum, there are plenty of anecdotal occurrences before and after the court date: Scout's ever-strengthening bond with older brother Jem (Philip Alford), her friendship with precocious young Dill Harris (a character based on Lee's childhood chum Truman Capote and played by John Megna), her father's no-nonsense reactions to such life-and-death crises as a rampaging mad dog, and especially Scout's reactions to, and relationship with, Boo Radley (Robert Duvall in his movie debut), the reclusive "village idiot" who turns out to be her salvation when she is attacked by a venomous bigot. To Kill a Mockingbird won Academy Awards for Best Actor (Peck), Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Art Direction.

It's times like this that showed what a coward Bob Ewell was. Instead of approaching Atticus directly, he went after defenseless children.

The fact that this is like a super serious scene makes the whole ham costume like 20x funnier

To think that Boo Radley was terrified to go outside and face the world his whole life, yet he didn't hesitate for a second to run outside to defend the children, shows what a man of character he was. One of the greatest literary heroes and such a powerful story

Glad to see so many have read this American classic book. Mr Ewell was not there to scare these kids but to kill them. read the book - Scout's costume is all torn up from Mr Ewell's knife, Jim's arm is broken & dislocated. Boo is their guardian angel. Keep reading and RIP to Harper Lee.

This is one of the most eerie and heroic scenes in cinema.

Apologies in advance; I'm about to be a fangirl. But Arthur is a fucking darling. He was abused by his family and then shunned by the county and yet still remains, simply put, a mockingbird--a creature with no intention other than to add a little beauty and kindness into the world. And the fact that he risked his life to save two children whom he's barely even interacted with is just... fuck me, I need a tissue. T-T

I thought it was absolutely brilliant to not show most of the actual struggle between Boo and Bob Ewell and instead focus on Scout's eyes and her reaction to convey what was happening.  When her eyes just lit up you knew something serious had truly happened there.  Also, the almost creepy music leading up to the assault still gives me chills to this day as an adult.

I know the ham costume makes this unintentionally funny but when Mr. Ewell attacks it scared the daylights out of me as a kid. Still sends shivers down my spine when Jem is injured. An intense scene

That shot of Scout’s widened eyes seeing Boo kill Ewell through the ham is so haunting. For the first time, she’s truly fully exposed to the darkness and violence in the world as she loses the naive innocence of her childhood. Such a sin it is to kill a mockingbird.

Boo's face while he's killing Ewell is probably like, "You fucked with the wrong kids, bitch..."

This is a black and white movie from the early sixties and yet it's action scene still has better lighting than a fair few modern blockbusters.

2:12 That’s the scene, do you ever just look at how her eyes widen and you hear a grunt. That could be Boo killing Bob Ewell. Scout just covered for him, maybe that’s what happened. Either way, Boo is like the most precious fictional character ever and I honestly cried twice when reading the book and watching the film. Absolutely amazing
