Gotta be careful when choosing a Pandanus fruit to eat. There’s lots of species, and lots of variation within species. Some are edible raw like this one, some require cooking or preparation, and some are fully inedible (I think it depends on the raphide content, but I’m not entirely sure). Best to ask the locals or others in-the-know about the better varieties available locally.

I’m from Hawaii, we don’t eat Pandanus even though it grows along all of our marshlands and along our coasts. We dry them out and make paintbrushes out of the knobs of the fruit which are rather fibrous. lol, I didn’t even know they were edible as I have never in all my years seen anyone even attempt to eat the Pandanus fruits, lol.

This was my childhood treat growing up in the Kiribati islands of Micronesia. That and noni fruit.

back in my home island those are called fala and the smaller ones are not edible but we do use them for flower crowns. there is another species of that kind of fruit and it's much bigger and sweeter to eat when ripen.
