My little guide to a great 35mm Film SLR, the Pentax K1000. In this video I cover why the K1000 is so good, what to look for when you buy one, and how to shoot with it.

Thanks, Rob.

I bought my K1000 in 1987 and I still use it today. This camera works so well that I have not even thought of buying a new camera, I will continue to use it til I can no longer buy film. I have a few other cameras that people have given me but my Pentax is my favorite.

Thank you much for this quick video!!! My girlfriend is about to leave her job at the local thrift store and she found this camera in the front the other day. They were selling for about $100 and she was able to get it for about $25 due to employee discounts haha... So I am fucking thrilled to start dabbling into using this thing!!! It's a later end model without the "Asahi" above the Pentax logo, and seems to be in very good condition when I compared to yours in the video. My only question to you which I think I figured out, is I have a strange black smudge in the middle of the viewfinder? I looked it up online and it SEEMS to be due to the reflector bumper material rubbing off. Any suggestions on how to clean that or should I try for a local camera specialist to take a look? I live in Austin TX so I'd be willing to bet someone in this city knows how to delicately handle one of these bad boys, but at the same time I'd like to repair it myself if its not going to be a risky process.

Great video! Thx :) I just got my first Pentax K-1000, and shot 17 photos on a 36-photo kodak b/w film. After watching this video I noticed that my "left side" of the camera (the feature that rolls up the film) isn't moving together with the right and in this video you said that it's a great way to test if your film is working correctly(15:27).. Does this mean that my film is blank or is there still a possibility that the film is working as it is supposed to? :) :/ If not, there is no need for me to take the rest of the pictures, I guess :/ :)

I've never used a film "analog" camera like this before... digital since I became interested in photography. Of course, when I began looking for a new camera my dad pulled one of these out of the closet that he and my mom had used on their honeymoon and hadn't really touched since. So I was excited and I burned through 4 rolls of the film that my parents had with the camera (the film was probably at least 10-15 years old). I think my digital experience has made me habitually hasty. Anyways, after getting those pictures developed I found that they were all overexposed. Could the film's age have affected this? Anyways, thanks for the awesome video, I'll try being a bit more cautious when taking my pictures and I'll use that "F8 and be there" thing into consideration :) Cheers! (PS: do you have any other tips and tricks for setting shutter speed/ aperture to get a good exposure?)

Would you recommend this camera over a Minolta X-700 for someone who already has a good understanding of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO?

The sound is so bad I can't even watch this. There's some deep wha-wha-wha sound/distortion
