I've really been looking around for information on this plant. This video was the best thing I have found in hours of searching.

I bought a couple quart size Hicks Yews at Walmart's end of season clearance last fall. They sat in their pots all winter in the great room, got watered if/when I remembered to do that, and look just as good 9 months later, so I figure they're worth the time and effort to plant outdoors. The Walmart horticulturist loves Yews for the Colorado foothills, because they are so hardy, but they may need a fertilizer application to get them to wake up in Spring.

Seawater tolerant - Replaced all my hurricane flooded dead shrubs, (ilex & camellias I loved ), with hicks yews. From hicks nursery ( where hicks developed them for that purpose) . They’re easy Maintenance & doing great in every location.

Liked your video . I heard these are poisonous to people and dogs. Is this true?

My Hick's Yews will not grow. I planted 2 of them about 3.5 years ago; they are still there but they only grow about 6 inches per year & they are like one stalk wide. They look pathetic and sickly. I don't know what to do. I fertilize them twice a year with granules. I hate the idea of ripping them out and starting over again. I bought them from Home Depot.

I have been wondering if I could plant a bush or two infront of the house as a screen against stronger winds these days, and as a nice border. I wasn't sure if I could plant them on my own as I would need to dig deep enough, but after Jim's video, I know I need to buy some shrub fertilizer and soil to ensure it is long-lasting. Thank you

I would love to see how to properly prune yews. I hate the way my gardeners shape & cut with electric trimmers. It doesn’t look natural.

I planted some 10 years ago as a hedge. Each year I've shaped it so they're now very dense & about 5 feet tall. What rear neighbors? Ha ha. Nowhere to grow but up.

hello! we have 2 especially odd sized beds at the front of our Northeast facing home that need an evergreen foundation plant to fill each of them... it is currently bare now... these hick's yews seem like something that maybe 2 planted together in each bed would do the trick... (we would allow them to grow together but trim to keep them shaped as one large blob and also size controlled to the size we need). is that right??? we are SO confused with all the different types of yews available... ideally, we need something (or a few somethings that will grow together) to take up a 8 foot long by 4 foot wide by 8-9 foot height.... hoping you can advise before we mess up! also- we are located in the suburbs right outside Boston, massachusetts zone 6. thanks so much for all you do! we LOVE your channel!
