Rory was the biggest badass of the entire show. The doctor was brash and cocky, but he knew what he was doing. Amy was a tough chick, but she put all her faith in the doctor to get stuff done. Rory on the other hand had no idea what he was doing, spent most of his time scared and confused, but he came through and did what he had to do to protect his people.

This to me is one of the reasons why Rory is the best male companion the Doctor has ever had.
Badass when he needs to be.
Hilarious lines about what is happening/how they may be affecting history (Like in "let's Kill Hitler" he seems to be the only one thinking about how them being there impacted on how WW2 started/turned out)

There are other reasons but Rory=awesome.
