Marantz 2245 Ultimate Relamp & New Vellum How To

Relamping the Marantz 2245, 2270, 2230, etc. New Velum. We experiment with ways to make LED lighting appear more incandescent in appearance. I think the results are awesome!

***UPDATE*** I found frosted LED lamps on ebay to replace the fuse style bulbs. It's a little brighter and I think I like the look better over the painted LED bulbs. They give a more uniform light dispersion. Search ebay for "Marantz Frosted Lamps" and you should find them. I went with the Warm White bulbs and really like the look.

I once had a 2245, kept it about two years and sold it so I could buy a JVC integrated amp, tuner and cassette deck. I 'd love to have another Marantz receiver.

If you have one of these receivers, they are so worth fixing. I grew up with one of these and much of my upbringing was spent listening to one. They sound awesome and they look so nice. Just seeing this brings back lots of memories. What a great receiver.

My 2245 has that turquoise tint on the dial. I just call it “patina”. Because after all it’s 52 years old, and even finding a tech that wants to replace velum is like finding hens teeth. These 2245 and 2270’s are the best sounding receivers ever made. I like what you did with the paint. And the two sided tape too. Super nice job dude.

Great work, and thanks to show the process in detail! It's also good to remind everyone that we are free to experiment all ways to reach a result we like. Not just plug & play but plug-tinker-try again-remove-change-retry and...et voila! The fun was in the journey, and it sure looks fantastic : returning a smooth warm sounding Marantz to its original subtle blue glow.

A side note: If you want to try and be a real know it all (like me). You can tell your friends that those are JIS screws not Philips. You can identify them by the small dot. It stands for Japanese Industry Standard. They're slightly different than Philips and wouldn't you know it have their own screwdriver but of course Philips do seem to work fine and it seems most people in the world don't know this little factoid. I only found out about this recently myself. Google can give you the details of course. So impress your friends or loose them (depending)!

They now sell the warm-white, fuse-style leds with a frosted covering. (Looks like a frosted glass fuse.) They work and look fantastic.

I replaced the vellum and installed the cool blue LEDs on my 2220b. It looked purple so I had to add another layer of vellum. Now it looks perfect. I bought a reproduction faceplate from Vintage Hi Fi Audio and my 2220b looks like a museum piece. My son gave me the receiver 10 years ago and it sounded great but looked bad. Silver all the way. Your receiver looks awesome!

Nice work. For my Rotel receiver, I bought small warm white led strips from AliExpress for next to nothing. I added a strip of tracing paper -almost the same as the vellum but I already had it in. Works well. Btw, I love the wooden prop on your wall. Something I've always wanted.
