17th street projects in Manhattan, New York. Him and my brother were friends. The Wayne's family lived across the street in the projects. We lived at 1020 Columbia street I think it was. Columbia Projects. Whoopie Goldberg lived down the way in the other projects. St. Petersburg Church was a teenager hangout. Lots of hookie parties. Those were the good old days.

I first saw Gill at the oceanfront in Oakland it was a fancy club in a fancy part of town and so I thought this is great this is just great then I saw him again in downtown Oakland and not the best part of town a few years later and I was the only white person there out of hundreds but one his music started I couldn't help myself and started dancing and everyone turned and said look at that white girl dance and they nodded and they smiled and somehow we bridge something special passed all the racism the violence because we all understood what Gill was saying
