This Man Went Viral for Stopping a Train, But Not for the Reason You’d Expect

This footage of a man stopping his car on a railroad crossing went viral on social media, but not for the reasons you might think. The man decided to park his vehicle on the tracks, bringing an oncoming train to a halt. A heated argument with the train conductor followed, as the conductor was understandably upset. But here’s the twist: the man stopped the train with good intentions. He was furious with the company managing the railroad crossings because they hadn’t fixed the broken barriers for months. This was his bold attempt to grab their attention.

Meanwhile the CEO of the rail company gets a record bonus for improving the share price & reducing maintenance costs.

As an experienced train operator I applaud this man's intent; not that it was a wise decision for him to make.

Good intention. Stupid and dangerous way of protesting.

This is in Serbia....and its not broken for months, but for years. And conductors are obligated to stop at 85, 90 percent of crossing.

He parked his vehicle on the tracks with a passenger?? That is careless and stupid.

Ah, my lovely Serbia. The guy got misunderstood and was talk-trashed on social media, but when he explained why he did it, he got our full support, and he was in the right.

I am a train driver and hold licences for 3 different european countries. In all countries there are more or less the same rules for an obstructed level crossing, and I am quite sure that's similar in most countries of the world: the driver is informed in advance by a strictly protocolled procedure and must reduce speed considerably at a certain distance before the level crossing (5 to 20 km/h as a rule), and the point must be passed on sight and in such a way that it must be possible to stop in front of any foreseeable obstacle, e.g. if a car or pedestrian is blocking the crossing. An acoustic signal is usually emitted repeatedly. So if this level crossing has been out of service for a while, the locals, who have to cross it several times a day, will quickly realise this and are naturally and rightly pissed off. The network manager realises this as soon as there is a technical fault. He is therefore solely responsible and to blame for this unresponsible behaviour, and I can very well understand this man's reaction in such a case, even though as a train driver it is of course not my fault and I am very often shocked to death by careless road users who have to cross the tracks at the very last second. The train certainly wasn't travelling at full speed at that moment, then it certainly wouldn't have worked. A good example of how our always uninformed or misinformed social media society has to give its unqualified opinion at all times, even if it has no idea what happened. Incidentally, this is the case in the vast majority of cases when trains are involved. Amateurs simply have no idea, but of course they still have to have an opinion because otherwise they can't sleep peacefully or something, I don't know.

It's like jumping with a faulty parachute to protest the parachute company. That'll teach em.

BETTER THAN THAT.
COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE
BIG BUSINESS RAILWAYS NEED TO CHARGE A TAX ON THIS BIG BUSINESS FOR MANY REASONS. JUST LIKE BIG CITIES CHARGE TAX ON ROADWAYS.

It's a pity that's what you got to do to get through to some people.

So brave and bold to use a car with a PERSON in the passenger side (probably a child) to stoo a train.

I heard a version of this story that happened in Michigan's UP. A bunch of snowmobilers stopped at a bar. Finding a flat open space behind the bar, they parked their snowmobiles in a line. Little did they know that this was an active railroad line. While they were inside imbibing, a freight train came through and bulldozed all the snowmobiles!
