I'm currently listening to Mrs England on audiobook. It's my bedtime listen. It's a real treat.

Another great video! You’re really good at talking about books. 😜

Ooh, I really want to read Assembly! Need to pick that up. I also really want to read The Other Black Girl.

Looking forward to reading Heaven in August!

Many from this list is on my tbr 😍

I have read Heaven, which is my first Mieko Kawakami book. I definitely agree with your review, and think its a very masterful novel which tackles a key issue not often talked about as much as needed. Definitely will be reading more from this author now!

Thanks a lot for the review that has definitely made me prioratize it!!

As always, I enjoyed your video. As a result, I added two books to my TBR. One is The Readers’ Room (thank heavens available from my library) and the other is I’m Afraid of Men. I don’t really understand the term toxic masculinity (I picture large brawny mean spirited types?) so I’d like to read a book you relate to. Once again, your kind, reasonable way of explaining things helps me understand. Hope you have a great day. ❤️ PS I edit comments to correct typos!

I read Heaven after your review on it and I was amazed. I didn't want to put the book down but Momose's part got me and I had to take some time to think about his words. So far best book I have read this year.
I am not sure if you have read Koe No Katachi (A Silent Voice) Manga. It also dealt with the subject of Bullying problem in Japan but its completely different to Heaven. The Manga was adapted in an Anime movie also, in case you'd like to give it a try.

Everyone needs to read Heaven. Bullying as explained in depth by Kawakami gives such a lasting impression that you can never forget. Momose's answer in between the book gave me an existential crisis too.

re what you said on schwab's book (which i have not read), im not in favour of mandated diversity, each author will write what they're comfortable with, if a white author wants to write a 'white story' (or an asian author an 'asian story' etc) with little diversity, i dont see why that should make it a bad book or a story worth dismissing. I'd rather they did that than forcing diversity into the story and mishandling it. It's up to us as readers to explore different authors and perspective, not for authors to feel forced to include diversity for the sake of it.

Yes men can be scary. As someone who never watches sports and spends my time reading, I am somewhat of an outsider in most groups. Not the same as what you are talking about, but makes me want to avoid one on one conversations with most men.
