I was already planning on tacking Ducks, Newburyport in March, so I'll have everyone else doing this challenge to help support me as I try to conquer that beast. I haven't read a 1000+ page book in such a long time, and I am nervous about it for sure!

That translation of Les Miserables was my favorite book of last year too! I’ve encouraged some friends and family to read it as well. I agree with all the benefits of long books which you outlined. Forward March!

I'm so excited! I read Les Miserables last year and this year I'll be hacking away at The Tale of Genji. I find that the length, combined with the pacing that tends to be slower than contemporary novels, can make classics like this intimidating but it is so rewarding to finish them.

I love seeing how excited you are for this event and even more impressed that you can read so many pages in a month. Woo!

Hi Alex, I have been waiting for this announcement. I am going to read Middlemarch. This is my year for Mammoth Reads! I am participating in Alan Moreton’s Chunkster Challenge so have picked 6 big ones to read this year! So that it’s not so overwhelming, I have made a reading schedule which is very doable! Looking forward to finding out what you decided on! 😀📚

What fun! I’ll be starting Hermione Lee’s mammoth biography of Virginia Woolf. It will definitely help to have some support from other people reading long books. Thanks!

I’m starting Ducks, Newburyport this month, but I’ll likely still be reading it in March. I’m planning to tackle The Recognitions as well. Your excitement about Les Mis makes me want to reread it, too, but I don’t know if I can handle three mammoths in one month.

Sounds like fun, count me in for one book anyway - it's also my busiest time in work so I won't let myself get carried away :)

You are so right about five hundred pages seeming a walk in the park after you read several eight hundred page plus books. I have David Copperfield lined up and then The Mirror and the Light which I’m not sure is quite eight hundred but I think close enough. 😉

I think I will participate again this year. Last year I read one mammoth: The Pillars of the Earth. This year, I will read The Complete Calvin and Hobbes (1400+ pages in 4 volumes). I've been putting it off for way too long, but reading a small amount every day should be very doable (and enjoyable too!)

Nothing like finishing a big book. I'm still trying to decide what to read for this.

For Christmas I received a beautiful edition of Vanity Fair and had planned to read it in March. It's over 800 pages too.

Hey Alex, I've enjoyed your videos for a long time. First time to comment though. Last year, I loved the encouragement to read mammoth size books. I didn't pick it up in March, but I did end up reading War and Peace last year, which was a great experience. This year I'm currently reading The Count of Monte Cristo, hoping to finish it in March. And I plan to pick up Black Lamb Grey Falcon by Rebecca West during March 2020.

I'm thrilled to see the mammoths marching once again. The trick will be to pick my read(s). I've got a couple in mind, but we'll see what the month turns up..
