Embroidery Fill Stitches You Should Know

Once you've got all those basic outline stitches down, you've got to start working on some fill stitches! Satin stitch is the easiest and most commonly used stitch, while long and short stitch is the basis of thread painting. Fishbone can be done so many different ways just by alteration the angles, space, and length of the stitches, but it's always going to be best for leaves. And finally, crow's foot... well, okay, there's not a lot you can do with crow's foot, but I just think it's super fun!

My grandmother always tried to teach me embroidery when I was younger, but I couldn’t get the hang of it. She passed away 2 weeks ago and left bags full of unfinished pieces, so now I’m trying to finish them for her. Thank you for the video!

As a beginner in embroidery that learned how to embroider from short pinterest videos and a few youtube videos, I'm so glad you made this video for everyone to learn from, it has clear visual instructions that makes it look much easier to do the stitches. Looking forward to see more of your videos!

This has to be the best video explaining the long and short stitch out there, everyone else's technique just seems so arbitrary and that's why it intimidates begginers. Thank you so much, I feel like I can take over the world right now with the power you've given me.

This has to be one of the most relaxing videos I've ever watched on YouTube. Came to learn embroidery stitches, stayed to lower my blood pressure. I was in a trance! 😅

Although there is no voice explaining, I must say that it is the most complete stitch tutorial I have seen here.

Thank you for actually doing this in real time instead of zipping through it.It is nice when a tutorial actually shows you what to do. Bonus...no obnoxious music.

I was introduced to embroidery when I was a kid.
I thought no one does it anymore.
In fact embroidery helped me with hemming my clothes or just sewing basic things by hand.
I’m in my 70s and still enjoy seeing embroidery. It is a wonderful skill technics and helps with patience, plus, more.👏

The thread saver stitch seems like it _should_ be considered magic, I was interested to see what the technique was and now I’m just impressed that someone had the idea to make that a technique and it does certainly save on the thread for sure!

Thank you for posting this! It has been so helpful. About 40 years ago I started a Bucilla kit # 49128/ Oriental Cranes. I couldn't figure out how to do the long/short stitch for the feathers, so I put it away. Now, I can complete it. Better late than never :-) Blessings and Gratitude

I've never been particularly interested in embroidery myself, but this came up in my recommendations and I think I might have to buy some embroidery thread now...
