Making Acorn Cap Ink

Inspired by artist Dylan Sara and his acorn cap ink recipe I’ve made some myself!

I collected the acorn caps a few months ago and saved them until the ‘rust garden’ was ready. This is basically rusty nails and bits of metal soaked in white vinegar until the vinegar is a deep rich rusty brown. This acts as both a preservative and it also has an impact on the colour of the ink.

This is the first time I’ve made this ink and I’m looking forward to using it and having a go at making some others.

You can also add Gum Arabic to make the ink thicker.
