Stone Giants of Ancient Sardinia | Stunning Discovery at Mont'e Prama Necropolis | Megalithomania

In a 2022 excavation at the site of Mont'e Prama in Sardinia two torsos of the famous Stone Giants have been discovered. Dozens of human statues with powerful physiques and staring round eyes were created by the Nuragic civilization in around 1200 - 1000 BC on the west coast of Sardinia. Broken into thousands of pieces, they were found by accident in March 1974 buried under farmland in the Cabras Region. The statues are carved in local sandstone and their height varies between 6ft and 8ft tall. After 30 years in storage, they are now on display in the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari, the Museum of Cabras and even at two airports in Sardinia. The brand new discoveries prove that much more is to be unearthed in Sardinia and legends of giants, plus numerous 8ft - 9ft skeletons unearthed in 1901 and 1953, suggests these huge statues may be representations of a previous race of giants who inhabited the island in prehistoric times. Includes exclusive aerial footage.

Thank you for bringing up to light this fascinating part of our ancient story.
Just one thing for people who wants to go and see this magnificent examples of giants: the name of the town is Càbras with the accent on the first "a".
And, there is a theory which tells that this giants reppresent some glorious winners of a sort of Olympics games.

Absolutely incredible and beautiful site. It really highlights to me just how little we have moved on as a race in 3000 years. Much love 💕

The statues, to me, look like depictions of Caesar's Gauls, from a very long time ago.
It was said, that they were almost giants. Thank you, Hugh.

Sardinia is like Luxor, for me, this island is full of tombs where the corpses were buried
of all the peoples of the Mediterranean (possible diseases or natural) I visited the South of Alghero towards Bosa. The Italians have a way of burial of bodies very different from other European countries -

Great article thanks. Definitely some similarity between the recent finds in the Gobekli Tepe area and these strange statues on Sardinia. I rather like to think that Lucas got his inspiration from exhibits such as this for C3PO and other characters in his amazing space saga.

Very interesting. I've seen those eyes before, but can't remember where. If I do, I'll post it here. Also cool to see you call a museum 'Fun'. To often they are described as interesting or something along those lines. But museums can be huge fun!
