Awesome lesson! I always think about it like this, Saul, large and puffed up. Paul, small and humble.
Great lesson Pastor Bagwell. I loved it. Can’t wait for the next one. Thank you so much for teaching me. I am praying for you and sister Debbie.

Watched, learned and enjoyed! Looking forward to studying this wonderful epistle with you. Thank you for explaining the word "grace". It is a word used quite a bit in church, but sometimes not fully understood.

Great start to Colossians, Dr. Bagwell! Looking forward to your four-hour study at Sunnyside. Belinda & Colton plan to come as well. Paul's epistles carry the name of the addressee (Romans, Ephesians, Philippians etc.). These two verses are the author to those being addressed, greetings. The writer is named first and then those to whom he is speaking. Paul "Christianizes" or "spiritualizes" his greeting. Colossians has a lot in common with the book of Philemon and the book of Ephesians. There is reason to believe that Paul has never visited the city of Colosse. He has never set foot in this church that is being addressed here. Paul did preach in Ephesus, and it was his longest ministry in one place. There were probably people from Colosse that were visiting Ephesus who heard Paul and were saved. They then went back home to Colosse and won souls for Jesus Christ. Epaphras is probably one of the ones who did this. Today, there is no Colosse, and it lies in ruins. Local churches come and go, but the work of the Lord abides forever. Amen! Paul means "little" in Latin. His name before "Paul" was "Saul". He was probably named after King Saul as Paul was from the tribe of Benjamin. Saul was head and shoulders taller than anyone else in Scripture. Paul's first name hints at the mighty one, the giant, and then he was saved and took on the name of "Paulus", the little one. He went from the big one to the little one. See John 3:30. He must increase, and I must decrease. set something straight and in order. He is God's man to found and establish these churches. When problems come up, he is to straighten them out. There is an issue at Colosse. "Will"/θέλημα/thelēma. Jesus is God's anointed prophet, priest and king. Jesus owns Paul's apostleship. If you are saved, He owns you too. Amen! Paul wants to put his arm around a young Christian to encourage and uplift him. (Timotheus). Timothy's name means "one who honors and reverences God". Timothy was to Paul what Elisha was to Elijah. born from the same womb. "Saints"/ἅγιος/hagios/separated, sanctified and holy ones. Sainthood is not something that happens after you die. The moment you are saved you are changed, and you become a saint. If you are saved, He will make you faithful, steadfast and immoveable. People know whether or not we are faithful to church. The reputations of the Colossians have preceded them. "Grace"/χάρις/charis/God's goodness and blessing upon you. "Peace"/ εἰρήνη/eirēnē/two things that are far apart are joined together. "Grace" would be proclaimed by the Gentiles, and "peace" would be said by the Jews. God includes both Jews & Gentiles. Loved this opening study! Thank you so much for doing these! God bless!

Brother Bagwell
Looking forward to this study. Praying for you.
I find that it is interesting when Paul is introducing Timothy to other Christians he never refers to him as his little preacher boy or something similar. He seems to put him up more as an equal. When he refers to him personally he does refer to him as my dear son { etc }.
