Can Hip or Knee Replacement Surgery Prevent a Heart Attack? — AMITA Health | WGN-TV Medical Minute
Показать описание
On WGN-TV Medical Minute, Kim Gergoriou, MSN, RN, AGNP, an advanced practice nurse at AMITA Health Center for Advanced Joint Replacement La Grange, explains why total hip or knee replacement surgery is the most commonly performed elective surgical procedure in the United States. Not only does it increase mobility while decreasing pain, total joint replacement might also improve your health in other ways. Researchers from the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons found that osteoarthritis patients who underwent total joint replacement surgery were 40% less likely to suffer a heart attack. This makes sense, since inactivity caused by joint pain raises the risk of cardiovascular disease, as well as anxiety, depression and even certain cancers.
