BSID is an assessment instrument designed to measure development of various elements of behaviour mainly....motor, ...cognitive, ...language, social-emotional, ....and adaptive behavior in babies and young children

Its applicable for kids of age one to 42 months

The entire test takes about an hour to administer

How it's useful

Its the most comprehensive assessment tool for determining developmental delays in children.

So BSID is used to...

describe the current developmental functioning of infants

assist in diagnosis and treatment planning for infants with developmental delays or disabilities.

How Do Examiners Use the Bayley Scales?

The examiner rates the child's performance on each task, and scores are totaled.

Raw scores are compared to tables of scores for other children of the child's age.

This process yields a standard score

Now that score enables the examiner to estimate the child's development compared to other children his age.

This allows the examiner to determine if.... the child has developmental delays,.... judge how significant they are...., and develop an appropriate early intervention program for the child.

Then This information can assist early service providers with diagnosing disabilities.
