As a victorious Allied power, Italy was aware of Sykes-Picot though it wasn't a partner. Before PM Orlando left for Versailles, he met with Vittorio Emanuele III who asked him if he intended to contest this treaty in order to gain more influence in the Middle East. Orlando shook his head and said, "No, Majesty- there's a reason that the old Roman's left- too many problems there". How right he was.

I don't know if this was an influence, but Extra Credits are doing a series on the formation of the modern Middle East. The episodes are charming but their method of following individual narratives is limiting, I prefer your style. Cheers, hope you're well and staying safe

I just want to add for the Lebanon part that since the mid 1800s there used to be some of form of Mount Lebanon protectorate were the ottomans had no power and staved maronites during ww1, and that the borders were drawn by the maronite patriarch at the time with the help of the french.
