I'm amazed how well this guy held himself together. Some cosmic level bad luck happened to him, his friend died moments later, realizing he was next with maybe a few minutes to live he carried on, trying to make NASA aware what happened, and by some luck was able to spend his final moments talking to his family. Even then he kept himself from breaking down in order to not worry his daughter with him realizing this would be the last time he would ever speak to them.

Even then he was so calm. Resigned to his fate, but never fearing it.

As a girl who lost her dad to cancer at 4, this has me literally sobbing. I would give anything for one more phone call. Being that young and not truly understanding what is happening is a different kind of pain that no one that hasn’t been through it will ever understand.
