I think one if the other reasons, besides Apple and Amazon being great companies, is that he can move a lot of money into them without moving markets. Because he has so much cash that in order to buy smaller companies he has to acquire them whole. Larger companies he can just buy pieces of them with no problem.

I'm playing a little $20, 000 game between buffet and doesn't know about it. I put 10K into GOLD, LSXMK, STOR, KR, SU (what buffet bought a few weeks ago). WB is re-balancing the assets in his portfolio to reduce a current/future risk. Decreased stock (airline) shares. Increased bond shares. He expects an upcoming market shift out of stocks into bonds ... and wants to hedge against future losses in stocks or take advantage of the shift. The risk is probably related to "that virus" and its negative economic impact late summer into the fall/winter "flu season". The shift between asset classes and timing are key ... if that is his plan.
