A Grammy winning recording for Best R&B Group or Duo in 1982, 'Let It Whip' by Dazz Band was a cross over smash hit on the Dance, Pop and R&B charts in America. It tanked here in Australia; making the smallest of dents on the Top 100 - #97, and its solitary week on our chart: August 2, 1982. But 40 years on, I decided to drag it out and create an extended version of this most funky of tracks from the era. For me 'Let It Whip' was reminiscent of Chic's Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards with the chunky groove lines. Wikipedia's entry for this song, describe it as: "a percolating drum machine rhythm underneath live drums, and a Minimoog bassline, underneath an electric bass guitar."

'Let It Whip' was the high watermark for Dazz Band, although they continued to score hits in the 80's with songs like 'Joystick' and 'Let It All Blow'. I had not heard this song for probably some 20 years since I started building my gargantuan mp3 collection, which was a process that took many years but now totals some 20,000 tracks. Catalogued by year, as best I can, it primarily covers my pop culture vulture period - 1974 to 1992, but being the avid music lover, went back to 1970 and have continued to collect songs that have meant something to me in the years after that as well. I have been reconciling my vast music collection by transferring cassettes, vinyl and cd's to mp3's for decades now. Pop music has been one of the defining characteristics of my life and it continues to bring me and others much joy. Thanks to my regular visitors for sharing that too.
