Everyone tries to learn geography but then our Sudarshan sir not only learned but nailed this subject in & out. This subject doesn't seems a burden to us. Answer:- Because on this date United Nations Environment Programme was established in 1972 in Nairobi, Kenya.
So, to celebrate this day 5th has been declared as world environment day
And Since 1974 this day was celebrated
To encourage people about the protection of environment

In 1974 it was celebrated in USA with the theme- 'Only one Earth'
& This year theme is 'Ecosystem Restoration'
