Archive 81 is a brilliant horror show released on Netflix this year. Released on 14 January, 2022, it is one of the first major shows dropped on Netflix in 2022. Created by Rebecca Sonnenshine, this supernatural series is based on a podcast of the same name by Daniel Powell. Featuring MamoudouAthie and Dina Shihabi in the lead roles, it follows a conservator who is tasked to restore the audio recordings of Melody Pendras, during her stay at Visser Apartment. It was well-received by critics as well as the audience. It was watched more than 128 million hours around the globe. It also met with positive reviews and has an IMDB rating of 7.4. So, despite being a critical success, why it is not returning for the 2nd season. Well, it turns out Netflix has its own criteria for the renewal of any original show. If Netflix released its original show, it has to meet a standard in a specific time window. This standard includes viewership, the stickiness of a viewer to the show, and reviews along with other factors. If any series fail to meet this criterion, Netflix simply doesn’t go for the further seasons. Unfortunately, in the case of Archive 81, the show did find its stride in the first week of its release but drop off almost 50% in weeks 3 and 4. So, it failed to meet the standard and Netflix decide to cancel its 2nd season.
