Just Study about Suryaworaman 1 he build pimai castle first about 1100 a.d. in Thailand.
And Suryaworaman 2 build Angkor wat later about 1200.He invade Khmer area, which rule by Java at the time.
But problem is he not Khmer, he have indian blood proof is he use Khom alphabet, which develope from palrawa alphabet
from india.But later in Sweet melon king era.Sweet melon king revolt Jayaworaman 9 That time real Khmer nation begin.
Khom people escape to pimai his old home.And later build Ayuthaya empire in short time and invade Khmer revenge to Jayaworaman 9.
After Sweet melon king Khmer didn't use Khom script anymore and change count system from 1-10 to 1-5.This is proof Khom not Khmer.
