It's those cursed kit card models! That's the real cause. 😂

Maybe a tangle on the spool and the extruder just picked it up out of saddle

Don't ever give up, just learn from the minor errors.

If its anything like electrical cable, when the cable is reeling off of of the inside edges can sometimes pinch between the reel and part of the cable

meh not surprised. extruders have a fair bit of pull strength and all it takes is a slight binding for the extruder to pull the spool out of that roller. rollers like that are not as nice as they appear i mean look at what bambu labs has to go through with their ams. they combined several and then changed them up to work best with their spools and even that arrangement fails often enough i have been seeing it as a complaint for the last year. irrc the bambu everyone is using now is nearly 2yrs old and this far into production the ams, wonder that it is, is also the bane of some peoples existence

That is awful, I hope you can recycle it, still a lot of filament wasted. I hope it will work next time. As you might not move around that big machine often you might design a fixed mounted spool holder for the table edge. I have really bad experiences with those spool rollers, instead use a spoolholder with a shaft that reaches inside the middle hole of the spool, it is so much more secure.
Good luck!🤞

I see a notch in one of those rings near the edge of the spool base. Unless that happened during the fall, its possible that the ring latched onto the spinning rod, basically becoming hinged to it. So instead of the printer rolling the spool, it lifted it like the egyptians lifted tall flat rocks, lol.

We ran into this with these cardboard spools, when the spools start running out, it becomes so light and doesn't turn on the bearings properly and then goes with the filament eventually.

It looks like you got no bowden on there. The bowden tube less way only works on i3 style machines as the print head doesn't move to much. On cube style printers like corexy are, the print head moves in x and y. It basically tuggs on the spool the whole time until it falls down or everything gets unspooled.

Definitely get a bowden setup. Now this is not to be mistaken with a bowden style extruder. Often direct drive + attached bowden is calles "reverse bowden". This name actually doesn't make any sense, since a bowden works in both directions, that is the point. But I digress.

Install a 'reverse bowden' and you'll be happy.

Never put your filament like this, because do the same, put you filament at the top of your printer

Slight chance you had a snag in the spool and it just pulled it right out of the tray
