En la historia, solo un Mozart. Solo un Beethoveen. Y difícilmente creo que Chile llegue nuevamente a tener una gloria tan grande como el Maestro Arrau.
Me emociono extremadamente verlo en su ejecución, su técnica, su interpretación, su sensibilidad para mostrarnos lo que el autor escribió.
El mundo no está hecho solo para logros deportivos, que aunque son masivos solo dejan la efervescencia del momento, pero lo que nos dan personajes ilustres como Claudio Arrau, y tantos otros chilenos destacados en las artes perduran por siempre.
Es una suerte que nuestra generación tenga la posibilidad de poder verlo, aunque sea en vídeos, porque al menos podrán disfrutar el gran legado de un grande de Chile y el mundo: CLAUDIO ARRAU.

Beethoven was not one of my favorite composers until I heard Claudio Arrau play his concertos and sonatas. How fortunate we are that Arrau gave us such a wealth of beautiful music.

I had the privilege to see him performing The Emperor with Carlo Maria Giulini and the great LA Phillharmonic at the majestic Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara California around 1979. What a night! One the most incredible night for any Beethoven's music lovers. It was a memory for a lifetime.

My grandmother Blanca met Arrau in the city of Concepción, Chile where he came from nearby Chillán to study at the local Conservatory of Music. She had a brother who studied there and was Claudio's classmate. 
At the end of his career while in Toronto for a performance he was at the King Edward Hotel. Two chambermaids of Chilean origin requested their manager to look after his room. One of them spoke to him in Spanish and had a brief chat. Next day Arrau invited them for tea in his room. He was a wonderful human being, besides being one of the greatest pianist and a great interpreter of Beethoven's piano music.
