Garmin Head-Up Display SatNav Review

The Garmin Head-Up Display (HUD) is a futuristic satellite navigation system that projects the driving directions on to a reflective lens or film. It's great, however there are some downsides, watch the video for more information.

Very good review and I like how you tested it both in day and at night!

Really nice review here Sam, the only thing that annoyed me slightly was your mic popped quite a bit for some words, beginning with p, maybe you want to look into a pop filter? Video quality was phenomenal, you put this together very well, enjoyed the variety of angles in the shots too. It was great to hear your dad's thoughts on this too! I really like the desigh of this head up display, transparent might have caused some issues but Garmin did a great job of making the text visible even in direct sunlight and it's great that you showed that in your video. Great that you showed night time use as well. It's interesting that Garmin has made a device like this just to project certain things on that display but for the map, it's still reliant on a smartphone, which again depends on GPS and mobile data, so might not work well all the time. The price for this is quite expensive and then you have to pay for the app as well, so it does seem quite a lot expensive for what it offers, great that you were honest about mentioning this. Having said that, I do like the tech and this futuristic concept might appeal to some people. Congrats on getting this from Garmin for review :P definitely hope you do more sat nav reviews, really enjoyed watching this, how long did it take you in total to put together? Keep up the fantastic work man! :)

Amazing quality review as per usual. Although the product looks amazing, I could never see my family using it at all. Its looks all posh but the price to get everything including the app is just a little too much in my opinion. But still, a very cool and futuristic product. Also to add on it was cool getting your Dad's thoughts on the device, nice added touch! :)

Thanks for your review, I think I stick with my phone since line detection is only on US. Btw. its about US$ 70-80 in my hometown (Jakarta).

You can get APPS like this for your cell phone but then you have to have your cell phone on the dash and figure out how to mount it. I personally would prefer the Nuvi which suction cups to the left of the steering wheel near the driver so you can see all the lanes etc and which one to take.

I enjoyed your review.  Prices in the US; $80 for the HUD+ unit, iPhone app is free.

Microsoft has this for 99 but you need to buy the Navigon or Garmin App for smartphone for another 50 bucks. The new model is called HUD+ and includes Garmins Nav app for your smartphone. If you lose Cell signal you will not be able to use it. Drawbacks are no built in battery and this model only has 1 screen sticky thing to put on your windshield if you do not want to use the plastic viewfinder.

You have it facing the wrong way its supposed to reflect off the actual windshield off a cutout of film
