I would have liked this, if our host hadn't lost his mind, telling the audience that bacteria are thinking complex thoughts involving self sacrifice.
I would have stopped recording and turned the cameras off if I knew he was going to go over the top like that. Oh well. Such is video production.

No. They didn't think that because they don't think. Those that died slowly simply ceased to exist. That's evolution. Those that died quickly benefited others that were the same as they continue to exist.

so you are saying that if someone dies, quickly, these bacteria then off themselves? so that all the other bacteria in the body can survive? and for the purpose of something? like as, they know? They know that they are now the uninvited guest?

I'd be interested to know Richard Dawkins's view on this interpretation.

I think of bacterial phages as like a virus, but for bacteria.

He's talking about apoptosis. Don't pronounce the second p. This is the Greek word.

Only way this can work is if none of the entities in the system have free will. Nobody is going to willingly sacrifice themselves for the greater good. Not enough to keep the system working at least.

What you're doing right here hassan is the problem with the democratic party and why we don't always win we nitpick and segregate ourselves into different groups rather than for now, stick together, we can fight about the specifics after she is elected

They don’t die for their individual genes, they die for their species’ genes. Humans do the same thing. Sure there are hierarchies, but ultimately it’s about humanity, not cousin Becky Sue or Aunt Vera.
