Frederick Joseph Ricketts (21 February 1881 – 15 May 1945) was an English composer of marches for band. Under the pen name Kenneth J. Alford, he composed marches which are considered to be great examples of the art. He was a Bandmaster in the British Army, and Royal Marines Director of Music. Conductor Sir Vivian Dunn called Ricketts "The British March King". Ricketts' frequent use of the saxophone contributed to its permanent inclusion in military bands.

Hello. I am Japanese. I've been playing brass band from 12 to 30 years old and I'm 61 years old now. I searched for "Thin Red Line" in Alford and found your channel. I love Alford and regularly check for new uploads. While watching the score while watching it, I remembered that I was passionate about brass band when I was young, and I cried unintentionally. In particular, Alford's works such as "Thin Red Line" were a favorite of the instructor's teacher. These are all memorable songs that the teacher taught me in detail about the background composed and the components of the music (detailed motifs and their composition). It's been decades since I left the euphonium performance, but many memories of that time have come back to life. I will be watching many other clips from now on. Thank you for uploading.
