I appreciate his art and that he shared his craft with us. One thing that I understand with Chinese/Asian people especially when it comes to martial arts; it is theirs. It isn't all about movies, but I love the spirituality that comes with martial arts. Bruce Lee had a similar thing happen and we all praised him during his return to cinema. So this is the opposite and I respect his decision. I will miss him, but thank him fully for his artwork on film. ❤️

I watch a China interview several years ago from chinese Host Lu Yi trigger him to cut down film making in Hollywood.
Lu Yi is a well ollhown trustworthy host that interview hollywood stars and politicans before.

As an southeastern Asian, I thought was just his health and as a survivor of the 2004 Asian Tsunami. These are some reasons I was surprised to know.

1) In his first hollywood film; Lethal weapon 4. The US investor chopped his wage from US$100k to only US$50. Thats before paying to the rest of the chinese backend crew that came along.

2) Racism is another issue when one young American potential investor (age in his 30s) made him waited 45mins, standing outside his office together with other producers.

Upon coming into the office, that CEO didnt even wanna talk to Jet and brush him off coldly.

A year later when Jet become a box office success. That same rich CEO flew all the way to France to see Jet (while hes busy in a shot) for a possible film making.

Jet paid back by making him wait for 2 hours.

He mentioned hes tired on the politics in Hollywood.

This interview from Lu Yi still can be found in youtube but its in mandarin. She even interviewed Jackie. Jackie said the same thing on Chinese including his stunt team facing racism during his early years in Hollywood.

I believe Jet Li retired because of his injuries while making movies.
