Dancing on the Moon (1935) Color Classic Cartoon

Показать описание
"Honeymoon Express to the Moon" offers a ride for one dollar per couple. Passengers embark on the spaceship: cattle, penguins, elephants, bears and giraffes. A cat couple arriving late is split up at the takeoff and the female is left behind. On the ship, the cat plays solitaire with cards.

While on the Moon, the couples find private places to smooch. While at the base of the female giraffe's neck, the male comments "This is a great place for necking" to which the female (in a Mae West impression) retorts "Why don't you come up and see me sometime?" The cat plays cat's cradle. When the other couples dance, the cat dances a moonwalk.

When arriving back on Earth, the couples get deliveries from the stork but the cat does not. He is reunited with his bride who then physically abuses him. -

When I was little I had a DVD with a ton of old cartoons and this one was on it. I’ve been singing this song for years and trying to find this. Now my family won’t think I’m crazy and made this song or show up😂you never see those DVDs anymore I wish I could get some more!

Dancing on the Moon,
Your girl in your arms!
Far away from all the crowds,
Up above the silvery clouds!”

“Dancing on the Moon
With you in my arms!
Flying through the little stars,
Venus, Jupiter and Mars!"

We'll soon be on the milky way,
Please don't hesitate
To close your eyes and sway
We're going to the pearly gates!"

Dancing on the Moon,
With you in my arms!
And our hearts will hum a tune
When we're dancing on the moon!"

There's a whole generation of kids who are now grown up like me who are having the best dopamine rush finding this like me. I could always hear the music to this cartoon in my head but couldn't ever find it until today. Wow, thank you!

I remember seeing this when I was younger. I'm a teen now and I just remembered this old cartoon today and looked for it and this was one of the top first videos that popped up. Thanks for the good old nostalgia!

I've been looking for this cartoon since the late 90s. I remember seeing it on a VHS tape my dad had full of cartoons he saw when he was a kid back in the 50s. I miss my dad

This damn cartoon i saw when i was little always made me cry because the poor cat groom couldn't be with his bride and the fact that he's miserable throughout his trip would make me incredibly sad, and I would cry uncontrollably for what felt like hours, and still to this day I feel overcome with grief and disappointment. Still feeling sad as hell while typing this.

If you go into this feeling sorry for the cat because you think he feels lonely, you'll be disappointed by the end.
BUT
If you go into it thinking he's upset because he knows his wife is gonna kick his ass when he gets back, it's hilarious.

This, Christmas Comes But Once A Year and Somewhere In Dreamland are all old cartoons that my family and I would watch constantly, among literally hundreds of others. They're like time capsules, it's always neat seeing what the world was like etched into each episode

Love it at 3:55 when they play a bit of "When the Moon Comes Over the Mountain" and the moon becomes Kate Smith and says "Hell-o everybody!"

Originally released in July 1935. Max Fleischer's "3-D" background tabletop photographic process {which earned its patent the following year} is used throughout the film.

Music & Lyrics :
Charlie Tobias
Murray Mencher
Interesting! I recognize these two, they always co wrote “Merrily we role along” and I believe “The merry go round broke down” although that could have been wrote by others I don’t quite remember, just interesting to see them here, I love them because all the music done by them, is music I love!

Mean ol’ moon
It must be fun
To shine upon me
As I come undone
Til I’m all alone
Beneath the sun
You mean ol’ moon
With your beam
You led the way
And found me love I thought was
Here to stay
Then you went and took
My love away
You mean ol’ moon
Oh you mean ol’ stars above
The games that you play with me
I could find some happiness
If all of my nights were cloudy

Mean ol’ moon
I hope it’s true
You’re taking all the light that’s left in you
And saving it up for you know who
You mean ol’ moon
You mean ol’ moon

It'd odd... My mother found bootleg cartoon VHS tapes at various garage sales in the 1990s and would buy them for my younger brother and me. However, there was one in black and white, with this same song, and the plot was entirely different. I've never been able to find it, and it saddens me.

I’m here because of the Cartoon Craze DVD featuring some 1950’s Gumby & Friends cartoons, as well as some stuff like this.
