I was a Marine Sniper form 1990 to 1995 active. Oddly enough, we wore boonies on the basic sniper course at Quantico because that what that particular school authorized. It’s an overflow school basically so it was slightly different. Never got authorized to wear where in Camp Pendleton but when I got to a STA platoon in 29 palms, it was palm trees and boonie nights lol

I have my grandpa’s old boonie from ‘Nam. Thing is absolutely my favorite, but I can’t really wear it to school because people would make fun of me lol

My platoon went through hell and back for a year straight trying to get boonie caps authorized. As expected, we never did get those caps

I bought the woodland cold weather cap / helmet liner during my time in West Germany. Never allowed to wear it for three winters. Sits in my study unused and my favorite headgear.

A number of Korean War veterans shall attest that their ears were saved from the olive drab version of same pile cap.
