hey honestly im trying to do everything right now to mentally and physically prepare me for the Coast Guard although I haven't even gone to a recruiter yet im just trying to get familiarized with everything about the Coast Guard or possibly the Navy

D-133 (1980) Boot Camp Alameda, Ca. Boot camp was a starting point to a great career! Spent 7 year as a Coastie, to becoming a Police Officer, to the U.S. Justice Dept, to retirement!

Coast Guard was the stepping stone so make the best of it!!

I graduated Coast Guard boot camp in 1978 at Alameda, California. Company Alpha- 122. Then, we didn't train with females, in fact we never even saw a female for over 6 weeks. My top 3 takes are:

3. Sometimes no matter how hard you try, you can NEVER do anything right. You can spend hours polishing your boots and belt buckle before "PI" (Personal Inspection), and you might THINK you look like a million $$, but in their eyes, you are the "scumbag of the week", and your pockets are full of "Irish Pennants" (loose threads), and there ARE loads of finger prints on your belt buckle, even though you just saw your CC (Company Commander) rub his fingers all over your buckle. There ain't shit you can do about it!

2. When standing in the chow line, it's "nuts to butts" at all times, and don't you EVER crack a smile, or "skylark" when a CC gets right in your face!

1. For 8 weeks, you're nothing but a maggot! They will drill you, they will grill you, and they will try to break you. When a CC or someone gets in your face, just be respectful, don't EVER mouth-off back to them, or you'll be high-porting around the compound for an hour or so ("High-porting" = To run with your rifle, or 12 lb. bar overhead around the compound, while denigrating yourself as loud as possible. "I am an Irish Pennant factory", or "I am a treasure hunter, I found a dime"!

N-195 coming up on 6 years in next month. Boot camp was one of the worst times of my life, but when I look back on it every now and then (and I know this is gonna sound crazy), I kinda miss it. I miss how simple life was, all you had to do was what you're told basically! 😂

I think you did a great job with this video. I hope you have a great experience in the CG. The way you talked about the CG I feel like you might make it a career choice. Always keep up positive attitude and you will go far.
