In 2022 an unlikely team nearly shocked the eSports world.

A team from Saudi Arabia nearly won a global Rocket League competition. A team that practised with bad internet.

This is a story of how bad internet is changing the way eSports are played, and giving some an unlikely advantage.

As an Aussie I gotta say it is very funny putting it in the same region as Japan when talking about players from the same region experiencing similar ping.

Saudi Arabia is a very interesting case of a region just far enough from a major regional player base to create a ping difference but just close enough to not be debilitating.

Nice video, I showed it to my kids and they loved it, at the end my son asked who's shouting when the harsh advertisement came on

Great video, but you forgot to mention what this playstyle looks like from a defenders perspective. At top level (SSL+ ) rocket league defending against a MENA player is a lot harder when they have 100 ping as they appear further away from the ball but when they eventually hit the ball they seem to close that distance a lot faster and get harder hits. As a defender you always need to give yourself some extra time to react. Love the video thanks for covering the esport <3

Joe is a rocket league player if my memory serves me right. He mentioned it on the podcast a while ago.

Sounds like runners who train at altitude. A disadvantage that actually makes you more efficient.

The ping situation feels similar to football players from countries at a high altitude. Even thought their body is adapted to the different levels of oxygen its still creates a hindarance. Especially at the top level, but when they play at sea level some of them benefit from playing with a lack of oxygen!

I bet figuring out how to draw rocket league cars in the Tifo style was a headache

Interesting video, I like the car animations! I’ve always been so bad at rocket league though haha.

Love this. Don’t care for and know little about e sports. But this was a cool, fun & short breakdown of a niche topic.

easily top 3 most toxic fanbase online. this game is played by a lot of kids and teens and they will let you know how bad you are quickly. Likewise if you ar beating them in game they forfeit easily. its been a problem for years now.

Ridiculous to assume that it could somehow be an advantage to play a championship under unfamiliar conditions.
