Based on an extraordinary true story, "Defiance" is an epic tale of family, honor, vengeance and salvation in World War II. The year is 1941 and the Jews of Eastern Europe are being massacred by the thousands. Managing to escape certain death, three brothers take refuge in the dense surrounding woods they have known since childhood. There they begin their desperate battle against the Nazis. Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell star as brothers who turn a primitive struggle to survive into something far more consequential -- a way to avenge the deaths of their loved ones by saving thousands of others.

At first it is all they can do to stay alive. This movie shows the importance of gun rights and an armed society. It was the key to their survival. Very good biopic!

It's a good movie,
Hollywoodized to make them out as more heroic than they were.
I do give them the fact that they did save over 1200 Jews, and were considered "heroes" by them.
BUT
If they needed supplies, it didn't matter who they raided / killed to get them from, Russians, Germans, Polish.
Women had to pay a "tax" when joining the group for protection (as per one of the Bielski cousins who told her family).
Tuvia even executed one of his lieutenants as a traitor for wanting to take some of the group and leave (similar to what he did in the movie to the one who said "the fighters should get more food, than the others").
My Grandad was from the area in Belarus (formerly Poland at the time this takes place), but left in 1921 (about the time when Tuvia joined the Polish Army), so my family (over there) knew more about them.

It's horable to live through this. However, after surviving it, they went to Palestine to do the same thing to Palestinians.
