Another step should be to stack another layer of limbs on top of that layer of leaves so they don't blow away in the first wind. Also a good idea to determine the general direction of the wind and make sure to put the entrance away from the wind.

When I lived in Wyoming (USA) I made a few overnight shelters like yours… but down here in Texas we have these little things called Copperheads that love places like this… so I stopped. But, this is a good idea

I've done that, getting under leaves on a cold night to help stay warm, but the thing is many other creatures have the same idea, and you tend to wake them all up when you make your bed, I'm talking about insects, i must say from my experience its a very fine line between freezing to death or having a thousand pissed off silverfish and spiders etc crawling all over you, but I will say this its much easier to do if you're very drunk as i was at the time😂

It’s great to see an emergency shelter that doesn’t involve evergreen boughs, because not all forests contain them.

Seems a risky location, could get killed or injured from falling branches or trees. I've made a similar shelter but cut some black bin bags open and stuck them together with tape into a sheet. Then placed that over the shelter before covering with branches and debris. Worked great in both rain and snow no leaks
