The NEW Stihl MS 162 And MS 170 Compared!

I liked the MS170s enough that I'm on my third one. I run them hard cutting brush down in my trailers or cutting firewood and at about $160 each a fair deal for what I got out of them. $200 and tax for an MS162 that's over a pound heavier and 1.6hp vs 1.7hp seems like going backwards to me smoothness or not. My 5 year old MS261 weighs 10.8 pounds and has 4hp. I've never said "Gee I want a heavier chainsaw with less power. I passed on the MS162 at the dealer today.

I was so happy to get the last 170 available at my local hardware store. I always wanted a smaller saw for brushing and I just happened to see that one and figured it was now or never!

Well, I own 4 Stihl chainsaws, an old 009, Ms261 pro saw, Ms170 and most recently the ms162. For more power and performance I use my Stihl ms261 which is a great saw! As for comparing the ms170 to the 162, both are comparable. I actually prefer the ms162 in some ways. Seems to run smoother, less vibration and your hands and to be honest, this calibre of saw should be used for light cleanup and limbing.

They have identical power stats just limited by usa and eu law but check mexico or argentina they are the same identical engine and power

Looks good! Not as quick cutting wood compared to the 170, but quieter and more fuel efficient I suppose. Keeping my 170, might pick up one up to have another light use saw

I have had a bunch of saws over the years. EVERY homeowner with a little land and some trees should have a 170.

I just got an ms162 is it normal for bar oil to run down side and under saw when using it? Or is there over pumping oil and should take it back??

Why on earth would you put bolts on to get to the air breather? And if you absolutely had to than use a flat so your normal chainsaw wrench works.

Why are these ms162 more powerfull outside EU and USA check out the specs in rest of the world for example in mexico it has the same specs power as old ms170 does anyone know what parts did they change to tone them down so we can fix them to run as they shoud have without enviromental limitations?? 172 same story but she lost a little less

Why not showed How need setting air and fuel mix in carburetor? But only 1 Jack bolt low set air fuel mix and missing other 2 Jack bolt high air fuel mix and other fuel air max Jack set too

This chainshaw shyyyt not set carburetor jacks idle high and low fuel air. I have Stihl 880 and 171 more better

Eu comprei uma 162 pq não achei mais a170 pq a 162 não chega mem ao pés da 170 a 170 eu acho que a Stihl não precisava de muda hem nada e hj tiraram ela de linha espero que a Stihl saiba oq esta fazendo pq acho que não necessitavam de fazer está mudanca comprei no MercadoLivre a 170 e mim mandaram a162 vou testa pra ver mais sei não tou com um pé atrás

Nice video but why didn’t you offer an opinion of one over the other. I just purchased a 162 to replace my 170 but now I’m having second thoughts on the 162.
