John Deere Easy Change 30-Second Oil Change System Problem

Be sure to click on SHOW MORE for the "solution". After spending about 5-6 hours on my first John Deere Easy Change 30-Second Oil Change System, I finally got it to work. This involved 3 trips to the dealer for 3 different filters AUC12916 and two calls to John Deere.

SOLUTION (SORT OF) First off, the old filter is very hard to get off. Use gripper gloves (I used dish washing gloves) and you will have to mess with it. After my last call to John Deere in which I was told people were having problems with it, I realized it was not going to go as the demo videos showed. You have to use gripper gloves and you will have to "mess" with it because the filters out of the box don't quite fit right. So you have to kind of feel when it is in the correct spot. By "correct spot", if you turn it and you get a hard stop, that isn't it. The "correct spot" for me was when I did not get a hard stop. It felt like maybe with some more pressure it would go on. When you get a hard stop, try moving left, right, up, down, and eventually you will get it to where it will turn and lock into place. Note that it is also a real pain to get it off and you again will have to mess with it. I had to make sure it would come off due to warranty issues. You might just want to fight the battle getting it off when it is due for a change. However, once you get it on and off, it seems to be "broken in" and will operate as shown in the demos. Sorry I don't have a better answer, but knowing that you have to mess with it can save you some return trips to the store where you will get another one that does the same thing. John Deere really needs to fix this.

They don't mention that you have to line up the arrows and PUSH DOWN to rotate the filter clockwise. Mine doesn't exactly match the arrows either. I had to push and start turning a little more clockwise(past the arrow) to get it to fit. Once you get the hang of it, it's really fast and easy. You should also drain all of the oil, using the drain plug on the lower right side of the engine.

YUP! Had this same problem. BUT it was worse than that! Yesterday I went to change my oil (30 second oil change) for the first time. WARNING-- This should warrant criminal prosecution! It took myself, and my BIG robust, strong neighbor, over an hour, with 2 calls into John Deere and 3 different service technicians saying "Yeah...WE HATE THE THING!" They had NO suggestions other than to say, "They are a PAIN!" They had NO suggestions after we told them all that we did. If we had one more pair of hands, it may have only taken 30 MINUTES. NOTE--I watched 3 videos to be sure I wasn't doing something wrong. Shame on you John Deere!

Try reading the instructions provided. It says to push down then turn. I’ve done 3 on mine and it can’t be any simpler

Are you able to see my solution? If not, I'll repeat in the comments.

Hey Jeff I'm Brendon delete your nonsense easy change system and order the conversion kit online cause the easy change filter doesn't change 100% of your oil. Once you get the conversion kit your v twin will be happy and she'll appreciate you
