Derren sends a text to a student in a library which consequently makes him drunk.

For those wondering how, derren hypnotized him in another part of the show there's a video on youtube showing it somewhere, just search derren makes a man drunk. He got him wasted then linked it to a word. Now when he sees that word he goes straight back into that state.

I haven't seen the whole thing but his reaction is obviously a post hypnotic suggestion, the man having been hypnotised by Derren in the recent while in trance Derren has said (more or less) ...."As soon as you receive a text message from me you will feel drunk" (The man has simply been programmed)

I have no idea but, in his apocalypse series he put the guy to sleep with a phone call, maybe he does it by encoding a message to the guy stating whenever he hears/sees a certain phrase/word something triggers subconsciously?

It's pretty obvious what's happening here. Derren has hypnotized this person previously to where they will act drunk when they read a certain word or something.
