Idk man. That would be a tough spot. I didn't see a time where I would have felt confident in getting clear shots on target on 2 armed assailants with guns drawn. The first one would have been an "easy" target but you would have more than likely ended up in a gun fight with that second guy as soon as he ducked behind the counter.. Tough call. Glad the good guys walked away with their lives.

Having my own range enables me to practice from the ground, sitting in a chair, from inside a vehicle and any other scenario i so desire. It's extremely important to train in real world scenarios. Highly unlikely to be shooting square to a piece of paper at known distance.

One massive overlooked issue is the amount of time it takes to actually incapacitate a bad guy. John, you’re always so prudent in pointing out draw to first shot, but when engaging multiples, it also needs to be considered the amount of time spent on the first guy before transitioning to the second guy, who will be reacting to your first actions on his accomplice. A 1.5 second draw to first shot may give you a chance for victory against the first assailant but not necessarily the second, who likely won’t see fire from you until 3-5 seconds into the battle. That’s plenty of time for the second guy to run shots your way. Let’s make sure we’re covering this fact so the outcome is realistic and you can look at doing other things for success, such as stacking the bad guys or moving off the X.

I have had the opportunity to shoot from the ground as a part of an IDPA stage. The club I shoot at comes up with comes up with some unbelievable stages. The match director is a former Baltimore County police officer and a former Marine.

Too be honest, I think the reaction of the victims was the best. I would probably do the same. I look at it as just too risky for me to get into it with these two clowns. These robbers are usually very trigger happy and it probably end up with the cashier getting killed or severely wounded in the crossfire.

Every time I am in a convenience store I keep an eye on the front door. I pre stage my gun before entering.

The hardest thing to train for is the element of surprise and the criminals know this.

There was very little opportunity for a counter ambush in that situation. By raising your head you run the risk of drawing the ire of the perps. I think they did the smart move and covered their ASP's.
