This is other worldly. I've seen good jazz drummers do Caravan before, but never like this ! THANK YOU !

it’s not a drum solo. it’s pure artistry of the highest order

He makes it look effortless but oh the finesse and classy delivery!! One listens and views in awe. He never attacks, he coaxes, placates, loves the instruments.

Dude looks like a magician about to pull a rabbit out of his hat, but instead it’s an insane groove. His smile made me smile. Thanks for sharing this!

I met this dear and brilliant drummer in 1976 at a drum clinic.. What else could I say except that the meeting changed my life.. Thank you for sharing this timeless beauty.

I used to hang out with Papa Jo at Frank's drum shop in 1976. He suggested I buy a Paste flat ride cymbal that I used on"(Don't Fear) The Reaper the next day. I will be forever grateful.

I love his facial expressions. It's like he is saying, "Can you hear them speaking to me? I'm talking back to them." He looks so happy!

Papa Jo was easily the best "showman" drummer back in the day. He knew how to get a crowd's attention during a drum solo just by being tasteful. A true master of speed and dynamics.

Wow wow wow just imagine the hours he put in on the kit, the talent of creating and hearing a rhythmic world and his expressions are priceless!

I always had trouble telling Papa and Philly apart, and then they went and died within 4 days in 1985. Absolute masters, both of them.

A man who had fun with his drums 🥁 they were nothing but mere toys for his pleasure and with them he made art for the ears to hear and the soul to feel!

very creative, and very subtle solo. A thinking solo. Unlike much of the bombast you hear today with an excess of drums and cymbals. One ride cymbal and a high hat, a snare and 3 toms. Adult and class all the way. Thank you Papa Jo.
