Jamey Johnson performs In Color at Farm Aid 2016 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia, on September 17.

Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help — what can you do?

This is one of the most powerful memories that my wife and I have from all our Farm Aid trips.
Jamie's rendition brought us both to tears.
God bless you Jamie.

He sang most of this song a cappela, and it still sounds like the studio version. This is real country music. A singer, a song and words that come from the heart. I love how this song has so many different meanings to so many people. Our ancestors had hard lives but great lives. Vehicles, appliances and furniture were built to last several lifetimes and could be repaired with simple hand tools. Food was made from real ingredients, not chemicals and preservatives. Music didn't have autotune or computers. If a musician couldn't sing or play there wasn't anything in the studio that could fix it. As a young man born in 1983 when Nintendo, cable TV and personal computers were new to the market, in many ways I wish I was born 20-30 years earlier.
