Fun fact:
The Byzantine Empire didn't call itself Byzantine Empire, but East Roman Empire. Later, they dropped the word "East". "Byzantine" is derived from "Byzance", the original Greek name of Constantinople (aka present-day Istanbul).

Public education in terms of the subject of history is severely lacking in the US these days. History should not be swept under the rug. It should be remembered so that our future generations will learn of both the positive and negative things their predecessors did. History gives us context as to how things were….and why they are the way they are today.
