But Matt, the real question is, what is a woman 🤔🤔?

The look at me, dont look at me attitude is very toxic.

Megan from drake and josh is the perfect metaphor for no matter what women do, men somehow get blamed

I dreamed I was invisible and I married an invisible woman.
I'm not sure what we saw in each other.
Our kids were nothing to look at either.

I grew up in a toxic feminine household. It was violent and scary. It is real and horrible.

I think Blake Lively has just shown us all exactly what toxic femininity is. The way she treated that journalist when she congratulated her on her pregnancy is a perfect example!

I do think toxic masculinity has been misused to where the actual definition has gotten lost. Masculinity is not toxic. Toxic masculinity is when a man takes to being oppressive, rude, and shoving women around. I work in a male dominated industry. Most guys are nice. They do their job, I do mine. Once in a while though, sometime will be rude and nasty for no other reason than to just exert being a man over me. That's what being toxic is. And their excuse of "being a man" doesn't hold water when most others don't have to do that. That's when it gets called toxic masculinity

Basically, toxic masculinity and toxic femininity exist in this world. That's probably why sexism exist, and everyone is at threat of it. And it should be definitely talked about!

Toxic femininity is more real than toxic masculinity. Women just tend to be more toxic in general, and typically the ones who are most toxic and the ones who are always trying to be "girly pop" and keep up with all the latest trends and wear tons of makeup and stuff. I think a lot of men avoid these types of women because there's a stereotype around those women being toxic.

Matt, please be clear about the difference between 'femininity' (sweet, soft, pretty, sometimes foxy, feminine women) versus 'feminism' (women's wishes to be emancipated from their second-class social status vis-a-vis men).

It's not the extreme version of 'femininity' that you need to worry too much about. It's the extreme version of 'feminism' that is really toxic and becomes anti-family. Toxic feminism is a real problem that women too need to be careful not to get co-opted into, by the extremist women among them.

I think there can be a place for the terms toxic masculinity and toxic femininity. Both can obviously be applied in a toxic manner. A woman caring for the safety for a child is a good thing, but the same attitude applied to societal policy (safe spaces, trigger warnings etc) is bad. I think you can describe the latter as toxic femininity.

I'd agree that a woman can't really be "too feminine, " but I'd say that a woman _can_ be feminine in the wrong ways.

For instance, the "devouring mother" as JP calls it, where someone will be _so_ compassionate and caring that it becomes unhealthy.

It is insulting and demeaning ; the concept of 'toxic masculinity'

Neither are as prevalent in everyday normal life as some may believe. Of course people can be violent or emotionally manipulative, to cite examples. But it really boils down to virtue or a lack thereof.

Men can be less masculine and women less feminine. Some instances, not a big deal. Deviate too much though, and your life results may not be as optimal.

Actually mark passio has been talking about it for years. His lectures on the unholy feminine are amazing. And probably more correct than not.

You've apparently never had them weaponize your vulnerability or hold something over your head for years.

Disagree, it's just not in the headlines right now. Toxic femininity has always been discussed/portrayed, from rhe Heathers and Mean Girls to DCC & keeping up with the kardaahians. And indeed blake lively and her horrid interviews.

There's no such thing as either. There are insecure men and obnoxious chicks, but it isn't masculine for a man to do so, nor fem for a chick to do so. It's just toxicity, a lack of virtue. When you have men who aren't masculine they are more likely to strike out of fear or a lack of control over their own emotions. When you have a chick who isn't feminine she's likely to be overly competitive and go for reputation damage or manipulation instead of being nurturing.

It is the lack of these traits that is toxic, not the overabundance of them. Especially in todays climate where both are so sorely rare.
