Cannot say enough great things about the LA 40.

This thing was ROCK solid and had crazy power and reliability. I remember moving from this to a .46 FX and being even more impressed by the power.

OS knows how to make the good stuff for sure!

THANK YOU so much! My uncle gave me an rc plane fore my 9th birthdy, 3 years later i decided to make it run. Couldn't get to the screws to dismount the engine from the plane because the muffler was in the way. Now i know how to get it off! Earned a sub today my dood!

They're great motors for the money. Easy to tune and reliable. Not a power house but theyll do the job. I've got 2 that both have over 200 flights on them and they were used when i got them. So who knows how many they actually have.

The LA engines I have ran on planes do run surprisingly well despite their shortcomings

I don't prefer the cross point screws but I feel like they might save a very small amount of weight in comparison to socket head screws and I also think if you take good care of a LA series engine you probably won't ever need to take it apart because they just have bushings so if they wear out you throw the crankcase in the trash and if you crash and the engine injests some dirt that should be the only reason to disassemble the engine for cleaning unless you neglect the engine for years

David, I'm having some issues trying to start a 40 LA like the one on the video. It won't start at all!! It's an old engine, ran great, but I had to replace the carb for a brand new one. It ran twice very well, but now every time I turn the propeller, a good amount of fuel comes out of the small hole right on the front of the carburetor. Is that normal? Can you tell me how many turns from fully closed should that adjusting screw be? Thanks

I actually find the LA series have been very good reliable engines. I have used several over the years with no problems, and not necessarily entry level at all. Your dislike of them is kind of funny, Have you used them in planes over long periods of time? I do enjoy your videos and have subscribed, liked and watched many of them and will watch many more.

Here in Chiapas Mexico, we have all the year a warm weather I mean  the lower is 10° C (50°F), so a OS # 6 glow plug burn out rapidly, So we use in all our  2 stroke engines OS #8, works excellent (good idle), 2550- 2700 RPM and 10% Nitro fuel an 18% lubricant Castor/Synthetic, This engine is a good runner and economy in fuel (6 Oz.) in 10 minutes flight with management of throttle.

OS probably is like almost every manufacturer in our progressive modern double-gilded age. A disposable product designed as cheaply as possible to run just long enough with customer service designed to insulate them from customer feedback.

Those are dam dependable engines.i run them alot.im going to buy more.i have kadet seniorita with os 46la I hand start it rev it few Times with ignitor then take ignitor off.then let it idle and drink my coffee before I fly.i love it.i also have a 40la that purrs like a kitten.putting it on a low wing sonic soon.with the population at the flying feild flying electric planes.need glow engine that will start up and be ready to fly when it's your turn.im also noticed I'm using less fuel.with this engine.i use a type f plug in it.and a ounce off benal oil in the cool power fuel.i built this plane in July it's in military color scheme air corps.im a newbe at the field.i think this plane has them scratching ther heads at how well this combination works.i can hear them in the back ground saying wow that old plane runs good .then il hear that's a good plane.now I love to hear the engine on landing approach with the flutter sound.then very rewarding, is to taxi back to my airplane booth.its done this everytime out.its nice to land with plane running.and little la engine has proved very well with this.excellent work OS.engines.

Dave, I know is has been years since you made this video, but do you remember if there is a gasket between the backplate and the engine block. Mine does not have one, and it didn't look like yours had one on it. The parts diagram shows one I think. It is drawn kinda funny. Thanks.
