The deposed Syrian president, Bashar Al Assad, is yet to be seen in public in Russia, where he fled after the fall of his regime. For years, Moscow helped to keep Assad in power and built up a significant military presence in the country.

"Blackmail" nope. It's called geopolitics. When you attack a country and cause problems for others you should expect they will cause problems for you somewhere. This is what Russia is finding out in Syria..
