When to use the PERFECT and PRETERITE tenses in Spanish

In this Q&A-style video, teachers Mark and Marina from Coffee Break Spanish answer learner Travis’ question about knowing when to use the perfect and preterite past tenses in Spanish. Past tenses can be quite tricky for Spanish learners but, by the end of this short video, you'll know the contexts in which the perfect and the preterite tenses should be used.
Here are the phrases included in this video:
• Esta mañana he hablado con mi primo.
• Esta mañana hablé con mi primo.
• Esta semana he trabajado mucho.
• Esta mañana trabajé mucho.
• Este año he aprendido portugués.
• Este año aprendí portugués.
• Ya he comido.
• Ya comí.
• Acabo de comer.
