The mouth opens as the body dehydrates caused by the muscles shrinking. It is why funeral homes now wire the deads mouth shut and place plastic barbed cups under the eyelids to keep them shut as well.

Seeing this is disturbing but hearing the children in the background is hard too!! Being buried alive is probably my most worse nightmare!! Yes death is something we will all experience!! Let us all cherish living!! Thanks Jordan!!

As I watched, I saw every mummified body as once being a living person at one time. They had families who loved them and had lived lives we will never know about. It had to be terrifying for those who were still alive. How was anybody to know? Mexico is not the only country that has it's own death traditions. May they all be at peace.

I went there when I was a kid and couldn’t sleep for a week! This are the remains of another times and another days, is not about how horrible those days were in the past but how just a quick stop in life. Your vlog rocks!

The ones with their mouths open werent necessarily buried alive. Post mortem- when your muscles relax, the jaw falls. So unless there were measures taken to close the jaw- it almost always will be open.

I saw these when I was maybe 8 years old. My family is from that state and so my dad took me I was so amazed I thought it was pretty cool if anything it's a lot more cooler when your little at least for me because I always found scary stuff like this fascinating now as an adult watching these mummies again it's quite sad but also gives me a feeling of appreciation for the life I still have.

That was amazing, Jordan. One of my favorites. Have you heard of the Capuchin Catacombs in Palermo, Sicily? There are bodies internned there beginning in 1599. The last body there was put there in 1920. This place contains 8000 corpses and 1252 mummies. The bodies and mummies here in these catacombs range from adults to children. Many of the bodies interned in here are religious people, including monks, priests, and bishops.

Perhaps the most well known who has been interned in here is Rosalia Lambardo, who was the very last person to be placed in the catacombs. She is well known because her body has been just about perfectly preserved. If you look at a picture of her, you would think she’s just only taking a nap. Just imagine, she has been dead for almost 100 years, two years shy of 100 years just about.

Thank you for taking us on this journey. It is scary to think some of these people have been buried alive. I’d go crazy just thinking about it, so I won’t. Makes me wonder when I see these bodies, what were their names, what they looked like when they were still alive. What did they do for a living. What made them cry or laugh. I always wonder about this when I see this sort of thing.

It makes you appreciate life, doesn’t it? I know it does. I know it makes you appreciate your life and Jah’s, and all your loved ones, including family and friends. May we live our lives to the fullest and when it’s our time for us to go, we will have no regrets, because we accomplished ALL we set out to do...

Thank you Jordan. Our culture avoids the discussion of death, but we must all face it one day. Recently I had a scare, and it definitely reminds us that life is temporary, and we should live life with purpose. I liked the quote on the wall: " Every man must die, but not every man truly lives" or something like that. It definitely makes you think. I don't fear death, I am prepared. Thank you Jordan for doing things that are thought provoking. You continue to do amazing work.
