Maggie, the third Simpsons child, is born.

This is the defining moment for Homer for me as despite all the stupid things he's done in his life he loves his kids unconditional. He is willing to stay at a job he hates that makes him feel miserable for them proving he will do anything for his kids and his family.

This is why Family guy, and i dare i say even South Park, are no match for early simpsons, they make Homer do all these crazy things and get into crazy situations, but they still make you remember that he is a very loving father and husband
